Soetkin (°1974, Bruges) lives and works in the Ghent area. She studied sculpture at LUCA Brussels and obtained a Master of Fine Arts diploma in 1998. After graduating, she specialized in several other disciplines such as ceramics, textile arts and printmaking.

Soetkin works from the small and the everyday. A forgotten detail, a fleeting gesture — she collects what threatens to disappear and gives it a new form. By archiving, classifying and ultimately petrifying, she holds time in place. Her practice moves freely between disciplines, always searching for the tipping point where vulnerability turns into permanence. The tactility of the material is central; her work invites touch and explores the boundary between fragile and robust, unique and replica.

She has been teaching in a school for adults with visual impairment for more than twenty years. Since 2001, she regularly initiates art projects in collaboration with museums, artisans, artists and schools.

Through Mokuhanga Magic, she organises Japanese woodblock printing workshops for beginners and advanced printmakers.
