Soetkin Everaert

Soetkin studied sculpture at LUCA Brussels and obtained a Master of Fine Arts diploma in 1998. After graduating, she specialized in several other disciplines such as ceramics and textile arts.
She has been teaching in a school for adults with visual impairment for more than twenty years. Since 2019 she studies printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gent.
The interaction with people on the periphery of society fascinates her, she is convinced she can stimulate them to develop and reintegrate through art. Since 2001, she regularly initiates art projects in collaboration with museums, artisans, artists and schools.
Through her artistic work, Soetkin seeks to hold and still the ephemeral and transient of "being". She creates a universal world starting from anecdotal, banal details. Switching between positive and negative, hard and soft, reproduction and unique, organic and industrial runs like a motif through her work. By using different materials and techniques, she plays with the tension between the two and places the human body and the process at the center of these contrasts.
